Brian Machado is a fictional character. He was born as a result of a moral conflict between an eternal question: to be or to create? (because this is Hamlet’s true question), and a noticeable lack of this question in the everyday dispute. For many years Brian fulfilled himself as a theater creator (ab’SURDUT Theater – lazy eye, ab’Theater) – as an author, director, stage designer and actor. At some point, not willing to monopolise all the space just for himself, he brought himself to life: Brian Machado – solely the author. At that time it seemed a logical solution. Funcions’ separation allowed focusing on most important theatrical tasks, nipping all (individual and group) animosities in the bud. It’s right to say that Brian has already functioned, rooted himself somewhere. So I assumed that „using” Brian again will not be a mad artist’s prank, but just a continuation of his personal practise, for many creators have used such measures – I’m just gonna add, that the mental peace given by a pseudonym, nick, login, ID, homme de plume – especially online, is indescribable. Especially when Google sells its users’ identities for a few bucks, or when Facebook influences our daily choices with its smart algorithms. It turns out that not revealing one’s identity becomes our times need. At the same time I want to calm down all those, who think they know Brian Machado quite well. He’s undeniably phlegmatic attitude towards the world, but when asked about art, he becomes a constructive-competent beast, using the knowledge and practise gained in the Fine Arts Academy, supported by an experience of a graphic designer – and in addition (good grief!) with a knowledge captured in the university bracket of the expertise of culture issues.

Brian Machado jest postacią fikcyjną. Pojawił się w wyniku moralnego konfliktu pomiędzy odwiecznym pytaniem: Być albo tworzyć? (bo to jest właściwe Hamleta pytanie) a zauważalnym brakiem tego pytania w codziennym dyskursie. Brian przez wiele lat realizował się jako twórca teatralny (Teatr ab’SURDUT – leniwe oko, ab’TEATR) – jako autor tekstów, reżyser, scenograf i aktor. W pewnym momencie, aby nie zawłaszczać całej przestrzeni wyłącznie dla siebie, powołał do życia siebie: Briana Machado – li tylko w roli autora tekstów. Wtedy wydawało się to niezwykle logiczne rozwiązanie. Rozdzielenie funkcji pozwoliło skupić się na istotnych zadaniach teatralnych, dusząc w zarodku ambicjonalne (własne jak i zespołowe) animozje. Można zatem stwierdzić, że gdzieś już Brian zafunkcjonował, gdzieś się zakorzenił. Uznałem więc, że ponowne „posłużenie się” Brianem nie będzie wybrykiem oszalałego plastyka, lecz jedynie kontynuacją osobistej praktyki, wszak wielu twórców stosowało ten zabieg – dodam tylko, że nieopisany jest mentalny spokój jaki daje pseudonim, nick, login, identyfikator, homme de plume – zwłaszcza w Sieci. Tym bardziej, że Google sprzedaje za parę dolców tożsamość swoich użytkowników albo Facebook, który za sprawą sprytnych algorytmów wpływa na nasze codzienne wybory. Okazuje się, że nieujawnianie tożsamości staje się współczesną potrzebą. Jednocześnie chciałem uspokoić tych, którym wydaje się, że dobrze znają Briana Machado. Niezaprzeczalnie jest on flegmatycznie usposobiony do świata, ale gdyby go zagadnąć o sztukę, staje się konstruktywno-kompetentną bestią, korzystającą z wiedzy i praktyki zdobytej w Akademii Sztuk Pięknych, popartą kilkuletnim doświadczeniem w zawodzie grafika – do tego (o zgrozo!) z wiedzą ujętą w uniwersytecki nawias znajomości zagadnień kulturoznawczych.
